Finnish hockey goalkeeper Sami Aittokallio became a player of HK Nitra. On the other hand, the American striker Lincoln Griffin left the Nitrian team, with whom the club management agreed to end cooperation. The club announced the changes in the staff on the official website.
For the 31-year-old Aittokallio, it will be his first job in the Slovak extra league. His hockey business card is mainly decorated with two starts in the NHL in the Colorado Avalanche jersey. “Initially, we had planned to fill the goalkeeper post before the playoffs, but when the chance to acquire goalkeeper Aittokallio opened up, we decided to take advantage of it. By the next phase of the season, we are counting on the trio of goalkeepers Libor Kašík, Aittokallio and Juraj Beržinec.” said sports manager Tomáš Chrenko. Avalanche drafted Aittokallia in 2010 from the 107th place, and he worked in their organization until returning to Europe in 2015. Subsequently, he worked mainly in the elite Finnish competition, he spent the 2017/2018 season in Sparta Prague. In the past two years he played in the German DEL, in the ongoing 2023/2024 season he caught one match for the Finnish club JYP Jyväskylä.
After the arrival of Aittokallio, the number of legionnaires in the Nitra team will not change, as the club also announced the end of cooperation with defender Griffin. Nitra, where he arrived in the summer of 2023, was his first European place of work. He managed to play 12 matches in the Slovak extra league, in which he added a goal, an assist and five minus points to his statistics.
