Finland Trade Unions Announce Strikes in Protest Against Government Cuts and Changes

In Finland, many trade unions have announced plans to strike against the government’s planned cuts and changes to working conditions.

This was reported by “European Truth” with reference to Yle.

In particular, on Thursday the Industrial Union announced that it would begin a two-day strike from February 1 to 2. 60,000 workers and 700 enterprises are involved in strikes.

The strike will affect Nammo factories producing ammunition in Finland and Ukraine. They had not previously participated in protests.

The two-day strike will halt ammunition production at the company’s three factories, as well as its gunpowder factories in Lapua, Sastamala and Vihtavuori.

In addition, the trade union of public sector and social security workers JHL announced its intentions to go on strike. As a result, services will cease at almost all Finnish airports. Employees of Finavia and Airpro are participating in the strike.

Political protests against the planned reforms will also involve the Aviation Union (IAU) and the Road Transport Union (AKT), among others. Strikes could disrupt air travel, screening and baggage handling.

The PAM Trade Union will also hold a large-scale daily protest on February 1, as a result of which most grocery stores may be closed. The strike will affect tens of thousands of employees and will include, among others, all major retail chains, as well as hotels, restaurants, train stations and cleaning companies.

In addition, strikes in early February will lead to the closure of kindergartens.

Let us remind you that on January 18 in Northern Ireland, the majority of public sector workers went on strikedue to which the work of schools, transport and public services was suspended.

Earlier it became known that train drivers in most of the UK will resume the strike in the coming weeks after a long-running wage dispute between the Aslef union, railway bosses and the government.
