In Finland, the construction of a fence on the southeastern section of the border with Russia has begun.

Near the checkpoint in the Imatra region, a “pilot” section of three kilometers is being built to see how the selected materials withstand weather conditions. In a certain area on both sides of the checkpoint, trees began to be felled.
During March, the installation of the fence will take place, in the following months – equipment for surveillance. All work on this section is planned to be completed by the end of June.
The cost of construction and equipment of the “test” section of the fence is 6 million euros.
In the future, the fence is planned expand by 200 km of almost 1,300 kilometers of land border between Finland and Russia.
