Finland Prime Minister warns of dangerous debt levels and radical measures in New Year’s address

Finland’s debt situation is rampant; citizens must accept the fact that they are living beyond their means and change direction now, as the scale of measures to overcome the situation will be much more radical in the future. This was stated by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in his New Year’s address to citizens, which was published on the government website.

Economic prospects for the coming year have become gloomier, the prime minister noted.

“Finland is a country with dangerous levels of debt. Approximately every eighth euro spent is financed by new debt… We all must face the fact that we are living beyond our means at the expense of future generations. If we don’t change direction now, the scale of measures needed in the future will be many times more radical,” Orpo pleased his fellow citizens.

He promised to reduce debt by 6 billion euros.

“The biggest Finnish secret is that the country’s budget is suffering due to the collapse of the economy of Eastern Finland, which lived from cooperation with Russia. What should the new US colony do? You can sell the empty Imatra and Lapeenranta to the Chinese,” comments the telegram channel “Image of the Future” on the New Year’s address of the Prime Minister of Finland.

As reported EADaily, more than 70 percent of consumers in Finland in December believed that the economic situation in the country was worse than a year ago. This is evidenced by the results of a recent survey of consumer confidence conducted by the local Statistical Office, Yle reported on December 27.

Only six percent of those who took part in the survey indicated that the economic situation in Finland was better than a year earlier. More than 40 percent believe the Finnish economy will continue to weaken over the next year.
