Finnish border guards are preparing for possible changes at the border, but cannot predict the situation.
The Border Guard of Southeast Finland expects an increase in the number of Russian illegal immigrants trying to cross the border. On Wednesday, August 2, writes YLE.
As the border guards pointed out, the increase in the number of illegal immigrants may be due to changes in the rules of conscription in the Russian Federation – they raised the upper limit of the conscription age to 30 years.
“Internal Russian processes may affect traffic at the border. The risk of illegal border crossing may increase, but we do not expect a significant increase in border traffic,” said Jukka Lukkari, Deputy Commander of the Southeast Finnish Border Guard.
The publication notes that over the summer, 11 illegal border crossings were recorded on the southeastern border, of which seven were defectors from Russia to Finland.
Finland will close eight refugee reception centers because fewer Ukrainians have arrived in the country than in the past, and some have left the reception system altogether.
