The construction of the pilot model of the three-kilometer-long fence at the Imatra border crossing in the southeast of the country has been completed, and the implementation of the next phase has begun, the border guard said.

Finland has a 1,340 kilometer long border with Russia.
In the next phases of the project, the construction of 12 stages with a total length of 70 kilometers is planned. Work on the longest section will continue this winter.
Finland joined NATO in April in response to Russia’s repeated invasion of Ukraine.
With the entry of Finland, the external border of the alliance with Russia has become more than twice as long.
