Riyadh: In Saudi Arabia, those who carelessly throw away their waste will now be fined. A provision in the henceforth amended Waste Management Act will impose a fine of 200 to 1000 riyals on those who litter while walking or through the windows of vehicles, buildings or buildings. The National Waste Management Center has finalized the classification of various violations and penalties under the Waste Management Act and its Executive Regulations.

The platform provides an opportunity for the public to express their views and reactions on the revised provisions. Fines ranging from a minimum of 1,000 to a maximum of 10,000 riyals are imposed on those who scatter waste inside containers and take out recyclable waste. A fine of up to 50,000 riyals will be imposed on those who dump construction waste on other people’s land or public places.

A fine of up to 20,000 riyals will be imposed for failure to remove waste resulting from demolition construction and renovation works. A fine of up to 1,000 riyals will be imposed on those who deposit large household waste such as mattresses, furniture, etc. in unprepared places, along the road, etc. The same penalty also applies if green waste is deposited in unbounded areas or near containers.

A fine of up to one crore of Riyal will be imposed for any waste removal without obtaining legal permission or without appointing a service provider or waste disposal facility for its disposal. A fine of at least 5,000 Rials and a maximum of 20,000 Rials has been set for violation of the law for failure to remove waste resulting from construction or demolition works. Similarly, the maximum fine of 50,000 Riyals will be imposed if waste is disposed of in ditches, valleys, wells and beaches for stormwater runoff, or if waste is deposited on other people’s land or public places for construction or demolition .

The fine for failing to comply with the rules on separating hazardous and harmful waste at source is a minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of one lakh riyal. The same sanctions apply to waste collection and transport service providers in the event that waste transport vehicles do not comply with the regulations. There are also fines for destroying, disabling or changing the settings of a tracking device installed in a vehicle and placing containers for unauthorized persons in public places.
