Fine for agent from Dordrecht for racism during arrest

A 52-year-old police officer from Dordrecht has been found guilty of racially insulting a detainee. The officer scolded the man during a struggle with the n-word. The agent must pay a fine of 250 euros.

Agents of the Rotterdam unit wanted to arrest a drunk man in December because he had insulted one of them. The man tried to flee and was helped by two men and a woman. They turned on the officers.

There were striking blows and kicks towards the officer, as can be seen from the recording of the incident that was shown during the session in Rotterdam. A second officer was also attacked. One of the men would have sat on her. The suspect officer then scolded the man with a racist expletive.

Agent: worst situation in 21 years

The Public Prosecution Service wanted to settle the matter with a fine earlier, but the agent did not agree. He said that in his 21 years as a cop, he had never experienced “such a dire situation”.

The agent admitted wholeheartedly that he should not have used the term in question, regional broadcaster writes Rhine estuary. “What I said is wrong. I would like to reverse it, this is language I do not use. On the other hand, I am very angry with this man. He has wronged a colleague and myself.”

No understanding for racist word choice

The magistrate said he understood that the situation was serious, but ruled that racist language was not justifiable. The fine that the man has to pay is lower than the 400 euros that the Public Prosecution Service had demanded. In addition to the fine, the man also has to pay 300 euros in damages to the detainee.

The man against whom the racist language was used has yet to appear on suspicion of violence against the officers that night.
