In this research, it was revealed that inside a Buddha statue exhibited in the Netherlands, the mother of a monk who was meditating was found.
The so-called “oldest patient ever” mummy, at Meander Medical Center, Netherlands, Amersfoort uses a CT scanner to take pictures of the body in the statue and an endoscope to examine the chest cavity to the abdomen.
This mummy is believed to be Liuquan, a Buddhist monk who died in China, around 1,100 years ago.
During the examination, the researchers found that the internal organs on the mummy appeared to have been removed and the remains of ancient Chinese writing paper,” the hospital staff said, as reported by Unilad.
The statue was exhibited as part of the “The Mummy: Life Beyond Death”, which was exhibited, at the Drents Museum in the Netherlands last year. And, this is the first time the statue has been deliberately left out of China.
In this research, scientists reveal the process of preserving a mummy which is done in a different way. That is because it is considered the highest form of religious enlightenment.
Monk mummification is a long process that begins when monks meditate to attain enlightenment.
During that time, the monks would only eat nuts and seeds to lose all the fat in the body. After a year’s diet, the monk would be sealed within the statue and buried as found.
