Don’t be fooled by her small size: Gloria is a top-level boxer. Once her vocational baccalaureate in hand, the young woman decided to devote herself solely to her passion. But the situation becomes more complicated when it comes to looking for work. “There were no experiences in my CV. When I made contact with companies, they explained to me that my diplomas were not sufficient.“
Build confidence
Edouardo often sees young people like Gloria pass by. He is an integration coach, his job is to help young people move from the field to the office. For this, he is convinced, confidence is the first muscle to work. “Young people are not aware of the qualities they have because sometimes no one has told them that what they are doing was right, explains the young man. And when someone starts to encourage you, it’s like a drug, it motivates you to do more.“
Because the school of inclusion through sport aims to find young people in difficulty. “Lyouth in the neighborhoods often succeed in sport, notes Emmanuel Dos Santos is responsible for the integration through sport coach project in Val-d’Oise. But the world of work sometimes seems very remote to them. We want to show them that if they are able to succeed in sport, they will succeed in the world of work. A boxing competition is like an interview, there is pressure. But if they can do one, we explain to them that they can do the other.“
The parallel between the field and the office does not stop there: even once the contract is signed, you have to hang on, insists Marc Antoine. “When I arrived in the company, I did not have a bac +4 or +5 but this is where you have to know how to present yourself and say that even if we entered by the back door, we have many qualities .“
2000 young people supported each year
The school of inclusion through sport will open its doors in Garges-lès-Gonesse in 2022. It is the Agency for Education through Sport which carries the project, supported by the Ministries of Labor, the City and des Sports and, in partnership with the Association of Mayors of France. Objective: to support nearly 2,000 young people like Marc-Antoine and Gloria every year.
