The end is near – About the hope of finding protection in a foreign language
An evening with Amir Gudarzi
In the conversation we are given a rare insight into what people endure when they flee: an Iranian artist becomes a refugee in Austria who is openly despised. In love he becomes an object of study and an anchor point, even though he himself is looking for support. An important novel about foreignness and outsiderness, about courage, the power of language, love.
Amir Gudarzi, born in Tehran in 1986, went to what was then the only theater school in Iran and then studied dramatic writing. Since 2009 he has lived in exile in Vienna, where he works as an award-winning (now) Austrian playwright and author. “The End is Near” is his first novel.
