One of the most stylish convertibles from the workshop of Italian design masters can be exactly what will make your summer perfectly pleasant. This one is also unexpectedly available and in perfect condition.
Looking at this Peugeot 306 Cabrio and its completely timeless and elegant design from the pen of master Pininfarina, I can’t get rid of the impression that similar cars are missing from manufacturers’ offers today. Honor to the bright exceptions, but finding a car for 4 for reasonable money, whose canvas roof is easy to hide into the trunk, it’s almost like looking for a needle in a haystack. I was more interested in this particular piece, which is in excellent condition at first and second glance. And for great money. Let’s look at it together.
For the French, the 306 was an important model
Peugeot started the production of a convertible from its extremely successful “three hundred and six” in 1999, as part of the last facelift, and lasted with it until the end of production of the entire model range in 2002. The elegant shapes they immediately won the favor of customers and in no time you are in summer in France (and not only there, of course) they could see this car a lot in traffic. It can be said that it is the last “classic” convertible with a canvas roof from Peugeot, the successor of the 307 CC, as well as the smaller 206 CC and others already put a fixed roof of sheets and plastics into the trunk.

However, the once popular “CC” (or “coupe-convertible” design, used for example in Ford’s Focus CC as well as Renault’s Mégane) took its toll on the unnatural slope of the windshield, and often took up almost the entire trunk. In short, economical and simple canvas is rather poorly replaced, which still applies today. And if such a master as the Italian Pininfarina studio takes on the overall design, success should come. And I think the “thirty-six” succeeded perfectly.
Interior design does not have to “fit” everyone
Or would you guess her well over 25 if you look at our photos in the gallery? Difficult. Some shapes simply don’t get old, and this convertible belongs exactly in that category. Personally, I always have a bit of a problem with the interior design of the 306 model range from Peugeot. As if I couldn’t get used to that sweeping dashboard and (at least for me) slightly strange angles and inclinations of individual parts. I don’t want to look in any way old-fashioned, but for example the first generation of the older Peugeot 405 looks significantly more harmonious inside.

And I write this with the fact that I had a 306 (a classic five-door hatchback with an HDi engine) for about two years. And I still remember her fondly. So maybe it just looks inharmonious from the outside and in the photos, behind the wheel, I had no trauma from the design and shapes. On the contrary, I enjoyed the “light-footed” driving characteristics of the French hatchback. The sports versions of which have also collected quite a few successes on world rally tracks (including 2nd place in Monte Carlo and Corsica 1996). And the top version of the S16 with a 120kW two-liter engine and a six-speed gearbox can properly ventilate your wallet, if you come across it at all.
Very well preserved “open air” for very little money
The cabriolet presented by us is completely different. With 170,000 kilometers on the odometer, bodywork with original paint (the owner reports paint values on the entire car in the range of 120-140 microns) and from corrosion by an intact chassis. But especially with the price converted to 65 thousand crowns (and therefore for roughly 2 Czech salaries) is more affordable than many would think. It actually amazes me how little money the French sky costs. How do you see it, would you be tempted by a stylish convertible into the (increasing) Czech heat? Let us know in the discussion below the article, thank you!
