At 22, rue Mouton-Duvernet (14th century), Didier Lavry comes out of his ovens every morning “the solidarity cake”. “For the past four years, I have offered part of my pancake recipe to an association. This year, it’s for the Paris firefighters. One way to pay tribute to all their action in the face of Covid 19 ”, underlines this baker, prize for the best butter croissant in 2016.
He doesn’t do things by halves. He will donate € 1 on each of his cakes sold (14 to 15 euros for four people), or nearly 700 euros over the entire month which will be donated to the social works of the Paris firefighters.
But in addition, he had Prime, a French company, in Faverney (Haute-Saône), specializing in the creation of beans, produced a collection of ten small miniatures with impressive precision. “The collections begin to be developed nearly a year and a half before the date of marketing and they are subject to rigorous monitoring”, assures the creators of these characters hidden in the dough … That is to say that the Parisian baker has a lot of ideas.
Miniatures with all outfits
“There are almost all the outfits of the Paris firefighters,” describes Claire Bracconi, communications officer for the association of social works. They are in fire gear, or in everyday clothes, there are even divers and two small vehicles, first aid or more common interventions ”… The best thing would be to fall on the helmet larger than life.
This Wednesday morning, but also Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Paris firefighters are present in front of this bakery with a big heart. “A few dozen bakeries have chosen this collection for their pancakes. It’s a start, ”underlines Claire Bracconi, whose association helps orphans of firefighters but also firefighters injured in operation.
“Bakers have to make an effort. These beans made in France cost 0.95 euros each against only 30 cents for those made in China… But it’s a well-placed investment, ”says Didier Lavry.
In front of his sign, customers throng. The presence of firefighters is a bit intriguing. The opportunity for some passers-by to buy a calendar. It’s also in season!
