A new release has revealed a document showing the expected launch date of the next Sony PlayStation 6, which is expected to be in 2027, as part of the CMA’s investigation of UK regulators into the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by by Microsoft. At a cost of $69 billion, and according to the report, PlayStation could lose the rights to the Call of Duty series by 2027, which is the same date set for the launch of a new generation of PlayStation devices.
Although the dates are under wraps, Sony plans to release next-gen games after 2027, and the loss of Call of Duty must be very frustrating for Sony. It is unknown whether Sony has accepted Microsoft’s 10-year offer, other than the current deal it has with Activision and if the new deal is released by 2028, the PS5 will have the same lifespan as the other PlayStation consoles, which is about 8 years.
Since Call of Duty has introduced special features to the PlayStation platform such as early access, in-game items, and more, this is bad news for the gaming company, because Call of Duty is as big a part of the platform as the brand. They are still selling very well today and don’t seem to be slowing down.
And in 2023, there’s a big chance we’ll see console changes because Xbox and PlayStation can release updated versions of next-generation games, and Microsoft can build an Xbox series alongside PS5 Pro or Slim and Sony. It will be affected by the loss of Call of Duty 2027 which will make these new consoles redundant which will cause customers to turn to Xbox, Green Edition.
