Have you ever wondered what is the best smell and the worst smell in the world? We agree that this is a somewhat personal answer, which varies from person to person. A certain perfume can be good for you and horrible for another and that’s why there are so many on the market. Still, science has looked for the “most correct” answers to these two questions. The task fell to a group of scientists from the Karolinka Institute, in Sweden, and the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom.

And let’s get to the point. According to the authors of this study, the best smell in the world is the vanilla aroma and the worst smell is the foot odor. They affirm this by saying that the world population is totally in tune with these two choices. “We wanted to examine whether people around the world have the same perception of smell and whether they like the same types of odors, or if this is something that is culturally learned,” explains Artin Arshamian, researcher in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet.
