Find large quantities of weapon shells

On Sunday two weeks ago, Olav Langåsdalen was supposed to drive his daughter to the bus station at the Mælefjell tunnel in Hjartdal municipality in Vestfold and Telemark. At the relatively new bus terminal, however, all was not as it should be.

– The area was littered with trash. It’s not that unusual, but this was such a measure that we considered reporting it, she says.

It was Telen who first mentioned the case.

According to him, there is plenty of overnight parking for long-haul drivers at the bus station, and waste is not an uncommon sight.

– We collect garbage every time we use the bus, about once a week. When there is garbage there, it can have a redeeming effect, so that others also refuse more.

Special waste

Among the rubbish visible in the photos he took that evening are, among other things, broken wine bottles, beer packs and empty cigarette packs.

On closer inspection, however, it would appear that trash wasn’t just the kind most people have in their trash cans. Among the waste were quantities of empty 38 special caliber shells.

– Then we chose not to do anything with the garbage anymore.

According to author and weapons expert Thomas Winje Øijord, the special 38 caliber is a classic revolver case that is very common in Norway. It is used in classic “cowboy pistols” and a lot for competition shooting.

– So you don’t think this is an unusual or suspicious find?

– No, this type of revolver sleeve is used by many on a regular basis.

Not a priority

Suspicious or not. In a Facebook post, the mayor of Langåsdalen Hjartdal, Bengt Halvard, urges Odden to report the waste to the police.

– There was so much trash there that there was a good chance the person had left a business card, she says.

Odden tells Telen that he has contacted the police, but that they may inform him that a report probably would not be prioritized as it would be difficult to find the perpetrator.

Langåsdalen says the rubbish has been removed and makes a clear call for waste:

– Why can’t adults take their own garbage with them? It’s amazing how inconsiderate you can be.
