Find 1,700 cases, France provides 100 Monkeypox Vaccination Centers in Paris

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -French Minister of Health Francois Braun announced that the vaccination center monkey pox in Paris will be open to the public from Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He stressed that the French government is trying to react quickly to the increasing number of cases of monkeypox.

“To date, more than 100 vaccination centers are available,” Braun said Xinhua.

Braun said there were about 1,700 French citizens who had been identified as being exposed to monkeypox. According to the French Public Health Service, the capital region recorded 726 cases of monkeypox. That’s nearly half of the 1,567 confirmed cases in France last week.

The surge, Braun asserted, does not pose a major threat to the general public. However, the French government will focus its vaccination campaign on the target groups it deems most at risk.

“The profile (of the patients) is that they are mostly men who have had sexual relations with other men, but one can also become infected through contact with the patient’s blisters,” Braun said in an interview with BFM TVreported Reuters.

Braun said that of the 100 vaccination centers that were opened, 6,000 people had received preventive injections. He then advised, for patients who have lesions or other symptoms to self-isolate as soon as possible.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday declared the fast-spreading monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency. Recent data, there are more than 16,000 cases of monkeypox in more than 75 countries, and five deaths in Africa.

Monkeypox has spread mainly to men who have sex with men. The disease is not usually spread outside Africa.

The European Union Commission has approved the use of the Imvanex vaccine produced by the Danish biotechnology company, Bavarian Nordic, to prevent the spread of monkeypox. WHO said, the risk of spreading the disease is high in Europe.
