Rich Saxony – Financing education and thus giving children a better future: That is Mandy Eggeling’s goal.
Through a contact in Reich Saxony, several people from the Wehretal district have now joined the Rottau woman’s project. In a few days, initiator Mandy Eggeling from Rottau and Annett Bösenberg from Reichensachsen will travel to Kenya. Annett Bösenberg has known the initiator since school, quickly joined the project and carried the idea forward.
Beginnings
When Mandy Eggeling was previously asked what she would do with a million euros, her answer was always: “Then I’ll set up a foundation for poor children in the world.” Even without the millions, she wanted to put this plan into action implement. But: “The fact that it ended up in Kenya is actually a coincidence.” A year ago she traveled to East Africa and wanted to be very close to the lives of the people there. It was important to her that her children also came along and learned something about life in Kenya.
In the city of Malindi she made contact with Dennis Kaingu. At a meeting with the Reichensächser godmothers, Mandy Eggeling reports on her “now or never” moment. With the contact person she found in Kenya, she had the opportunity to find families in need and to have someone on site who would ensure that the donated money was handed over directly to the schools. Dennis Kaingu sends her the receipts from the schools every month.
While most children can attend primary school, which lasts eight or, after the change, six years, according to Mandy Eggeling, not every family can afford the money for secondary school. She and the other sponsors cover these costs with 15 euros per month.
Sponsorship
“It was important to me that they could go to secondary schools,” says one of the sponsors from Reich Saxony. The women agree that education is the key to a better future. However, it is also important to them that there is contact with the families and that the donations arrive directly.
By contacting Mandy Eggeling and Dennis Kaingu, you will receive, among other things, pictures and videos of birthdays or the swimming courses that are financed for the sponsored children. This topic was particularly important to Mandy Eggeling because Malindi is located on the coast of the Indian Ocean.
The 17-year-old Patrick is one of the 19 godchildren. Mandy Eggeling knows that the determined teenager wants to study law. He was considering whether the project could also be used to finance his studies.
In addition to the sponsors, who donate 15 euros a month to a child, Mandy Eggeling also receives individual donations from Rottau and the surrounding area and Reich Saxony. This is currently used to finance school fees for another child. Friends and family members of Annett Bösenberg are also among the donors. There is also great support from the Reichensachsen jazz gymnastics group.
When Annett Bösenberg and Mandy Eggeling begin their three-week trip at the beginning of November, there will also be three leather balls and a team set of jerseys in their suitcases. This was made possible by Harald Zaremba, head of the football department at the Reichensachsen sports club (SVR).
