President Chan Santokhi has discussed the state of affairs at the Surinamese Airline (SLM) with a government delegation to the President’s Office. Chief Executive Officer Rajen Pahladsingh says the company’s financial situation does not look bright at the moment.
Pahladsingh then immediately adds that there are possibilities to get the company out of the red.
He further tells the Suriname Communications Service that the president is well informed about the SLM. He has promised to support a good plan to let the SLM stand on its own two feet.
Part of the plan has already been presented to the government on 23 October. Chief Commissioner Pahladsingh says the final plan will be presented to the government in two weeks.
When asked what it’s like to manage the company as the company is in the red, he says; “It is not easy. It is very difficult. We have a lot of creditors. The SLM can be saved if the staff, management, supervisory board and government look the same way and do our best. If we are willing to walk that extra mile then it will certainly succeed ”, said the president of the supervisory board.
