At the far end of the sea gap on Kvaløya outside Tromsø is an older, dilapidated farm property.
In several newspaper ads the main house was called a “rønne”.
At the end of last year, the property was put up for sale, and several are said to have thrown themselves into the hot bidding round. In June, it was sold – for 4 million kroner.
Nord24 mentioned the sale first.

– I have registered that some have referred to it as “a rønne”, but you have to keep in mind that this is someone’s childhood home, he says and laughs.
But it is “not the house you buy”, he states.
– This is a super exciting property located in an absolutely beautiful place. It is a very beautiful piece of Norway. You have long beautiful sandy beaches, little light noise with regard to the northern lights and impeccably west-facing location, Nerdal boasts.
The purchase includes two kilometers of shoreline, a boathouse at the water’s edge, in addition to seven regulated residential plots along the water. These have been separated from the main property previously, but housing has not been realized.
– The property is multifaceted and can be taken in very many directions, he adds.
1600 acres of green land surround the property. Proximity to both Tromsø city and airport is also attractive.

Now the broker hopes they can lift the tourism industry locally.
The shares in Kvaløyvågen Gård AS are divided between Surfside holding AS and Byggettersyn Holding AS. Surfside is wholly owned by financier and multimillionaire, Morten E. Astrup.
Morten Astrup is the brother of Minister of Local Government and Modernization, Nikolai Astrup (H).
– Must tread carefully
Spokesman for Kvaløyvågen Gård, Petter Aleksander Bjørge, describes the property as a gem.
– Astrup and I have worked together for many years on Svalbard – where we are each involved in our tourism business in the high-end market. We have seen the potential for more tourism on Kvaløya, and therefore we secured this property when it went on sale, Bjørge tells Børsen.
They have spent the time on local anchoring so far, he says, and are in dialogue with the development team and Mariel rorbuer for further cooperation.
– We have no concrete plans for the property yet, and are still at the idea stage. Without local anchoring, we southerners must tread carefully. We want ideas and are open to collaboration, says Bjørge.
He shoots in:
– Last but not least: We love the northerner’s openness and direct language.

– I have invested in tourism and real estate on Svalbard for 20 years and have a strong interest in outdoor life and tourism in harsh weather areas.
He adds:
– I believe Kvaløyvågen Gård has good prospects of being a success if we are able to develop a concept that is attractive to the international high-end market in collaboration with other existing companies in Kvaløyvågen.

Riking family
The Astrup family has values of several billion kroner. The minister had a fortune of 343 million kroner in 2019, according to the tax lists.
Their father, the financier Eivind Astrup, has an estimated fortune of 2.25 billion kroner, according to Capital.
Morten Astrup is listed as living in Switzerland and according to Norwegian tax lists has a fortune of 196,926 kroner. However, his wholly owned Surfside Holding AS had assets of NOK 335.3 million in 2019. He has shares in a large number of companies.
The minister’s finance brother has for a number of years commuted between London and Switzerland in his own private plane where he himself is a pilot, according to a DN report.
