One thing is certain: the corona pandemic demands a lot from everyone. Undoubtedly, the worst hit are companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, self-employed persons and freelancers, which the ongoing lockdown is causing permanent financial difficulties. The state has been offering them monetary support since last year, which has now been expanded once again with the so-called Bridging Aid III.
For example, rent and lease that are directly related to the company’s business activities, all fixed costs for water, heating and electricity, interest expenses for credits and loans, rental costs for machines and vehicles, costs for cleaning and hygiene measures are eligible. For the first time, Bridging Aid III now also subsidizes expenses for digitization, advertising and marketing – such as setting up an online shop or advertisements in print and other media.
Help is tied to conditions
The prerequisite for state aid for the period from November 2020 to June 2021 is Corona-related revenue losses of at least 30 percent in each month for which a grant is requested. In comparison, the reference month of 2019 is decisive for eligibility. In the event of a loss of sales of more than 70 percent, up to 90 percent of the amount will be reimbursed. Anyone who has between 50 and 70 percent less sales can receive up to 60 percent. For losses between 30 and less than 50 percent, the state contributes up to 40 percent of the eligible fixed costs. The amount of funding is limited to 1.5 million euros.
However, the application does not go completely without effort and paperwork. A lot of general information, estimates of the expected sales in the funding period and the expected fixed costs during this period must be submitted. In each case, the correct comparative sales from 2019 must be submitted to determine the drop in sales. Advance sales tax returns, the latest annual financial statements, tax assessments and approvals from previous government aid serve as evidence for this.
Application and Taxes
So far, the Corona grants are tax-free, but are subject to sales tax. In the case of income, corporation and trade tax, on the other hand, depending on the legal form of the company or the personal tax rate, repayments of the subsidy amount to the tax office may be due – in extreme cases up to 45 percent. Therefore, anyone wishing to apply for Bridging Aid III should seek advice from an expert.
State aid for the period from November 2020 to June 2021 can only be applied for through third parties anyway? -? So through auditors, auditors, a lawyer or even through the tax advisor. The application deadline is August 31st. According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the payments for bridging aid III have been running since March. However, there are no specific statements on the question of how long applicants have to wait for money to flow.
