Finances – Stuttgart – state wants to complete supplementary budget with new debts – economy

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The leaders of the green-black coalition want to wrap up the planned supplementary budget with new debts on Tuesday (8 p.m.). The date was confirmed dpa on Monday evening with the Greens and the CDU. The state government is planning to declare the corona crisis a natural disaster again and thus temporarily suspend the debt brake. In this way, new loans amounting to almost one billion euros are to be taken out in order to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic.

Among other things, it is intended to finance a tutoring program for schoolchildren as well as help for retail and culture. In addition, the state wants to give the municipalities a hand, also by helping them with local public transport. In addition, Grün-Schwarz wants to create a corona risk buffer in order to be able to finance vaccination and test centers in autumn.

At the end of last year, the previous green-black government took on 13.5 billion euros in new debts to cope with the pandemic – here, too, it was argued that Corona should be understood as an extraordinary emergency situation.

However, the country now also has the option of using the economic component provided for in the debt brake for further loans. Because the economy has shrunk due to Corona, the government is reportedly able to take on more than 200 million euros in debt. However, these loans must be repaid quickly when the economy picks up again.

The budget commission includes Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (both Greens), Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU), the parliamentary group leaders of the Greens and CDU as well as the financial policy spokesmen of the two parliamentary groups. The addendum should then be brought by the state parliament before the parliamentary summer break at the end of July.
