Finance: Meyrin will spend nearly 9 million on a school – News Genève: Geneva news

The invoice is salty, it amounts to 8.88 million francs. But on Tuesday evening, the Meyrin City Council unanimously agreed to settle it. During the pre-election period, who would dare oppose the renovation of a school whose state of disrepair is worrying? In July 2016, a report even said that the Golette – this is what it is – presented “the highest degree of urgency of the 14 buildings of the administrative heritage” audited on this occasion.

Still, “it’s the Scottish shower,” noted PLR Pierre Boccard. Because a first estimate of the work to be carried out “amounted to 3.7 million francs. But the CMNS (editor’s note: Committee on Monuments, Nature and Sites) has been there. ” The children’s school, comprising three buildings, was then listed in the inventory of buildings worthy of protection. Its renovation is only more costly, since it must comply with strict rules for both interior fittings (fixed furniture in classrooms) and exteriors (rough concrete frames).

But, as all elected officials noted, this renovation is necessary. The Municipality will take the opportunity to substantially improve the energy performance of the building. Enough to reduce annual costs by 80% and heating consumption by 90%. The work, which should start in July, will last a year, during which the students will be moved to a temporary pavilion.
