IDXChannel – YouTube users on Android have been enjoying the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature since Android Oreo, and iOS users will finally be able to enjoy YouTube videos while using other apps.
Citing The Verge page, Sunday (20/6/2021), with the presence of this feature users can watch videos while doing other things on their iPhone and iPad.
A YouTube spokesperson said that the feature is currently rolling out to Premium subscribers only. Only then did the rollout resume for all iOS users, including free users in the US. However, YouTube did not give an exact time when the feature will be available for free users.
This PiP support has actually been available for the iPad since iOS 9 and was first introduced on the iPhone in iOS 14. However, this feature often does not appear, for example on the iPad the feature only appears when using Safari. Meanwhile, iPhone users have only been able to access this feature on a regular basis.
But now that should no longer happen. YouTube users on iOS, both paid and free, can use the PiP feature through the application. Just like what Android users have been able to enjoy for the past few years. (SNP)
