I admit that I don’t install any mods for video games very often. This is mainly due to the desire to play a given title in the way that the developer wanted it, and also the fact that I mostly play on the console. However, story mods are a completely different pair of wellies – probably the most ambitious modification in the history of The Witcher games in front of you.
The Witcher games aren’t famous for their many story modifications. The greatest potential in this topic was probably developed by the first part, for which the fans created some interesting projects. However, the most impressive is the upcoming modification to The Witcher 2 – focusing on the end of the entire Witcher game saga.
The Witcher: Farewell to the White Wolf – the biggest mod for The Witcher 2 in history
I’ve been following the modification of Farewell to the White Wolf since… I don’t remember how long. The first announcements of the unofficial epilogue to the game The Witcher appeared on the web a few years ago and the scale of the project was already impressive then. Today, finally, the official release date of the mod has been published, along with another trailer.
The Witcher: Farewell to the White Wolf is a huge fan project for fans, showing, as you might guess … farewell to the legendary White Wolf. The story will focus mainly on the wedding of Geralt and Yennefer, to which all the key heroes of the trilogy are invited. Importantly, the modification is made on the engine of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
Why was The Witcher 2 chosen and not 3? The reason is the game engine – The Witcher 3 it is not the best place for modders, paradoxically the engine of the second Witcher, which even has special tools for the creators of their own adventures, allows for much more. The authors of the modification of Farewell to the White Wolf emphasize, however, that they changed a lot and added a lot to the original gameplay of The Witcher 2.
For technical things – the modification will not offer dubbing for obvious reasons (but you can count on subtitles in many languages!), And the Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings game will be required to launch this adventure. Of course, the modification will be free.
If you want to learn more about the project itself, please visit both modification page on Facebookand to YouTube channel. You can see there, among other things extensive video material from an early version of the modification. For a fully fan project, it looks great!
The premiere of The Witcher: Farewell to the White Wolf mod is scheduled for October 26, 2020. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to it!
