Finally successes in Married At First Sight: ‘We want to grow old together’ | NOW

Where after the first six series of Married At First Sight To date, two couples are still together, the seventh season has no fewer than three couples who decided to keep their wedding rings on. Among them are Sonny and Dylan, who are now even living together. They tell NU.nl why they did succeed.

When Sonny and Dylan first saw each other about seven months ago, it was actually an instant hit between the two.

Before the ceremony took place and they had seen each other, Dylan gave his betrothed a rose. Sonny decided to put the flower between his teeth and greeted his betrothed in this way. Dylan: “That immediately took a lot of tension away, for both of us.” Sonny: “That was really an icebreaker. And then, when I saw him, I immediately thought: this is him.”

Where the click with other couples was (partially) missing and tensions arose, Sonny and Dylan were actually not bothered by that. Dylan: “We really are a golden match. We were not busy with the cameras, only with each other. From the very beginning we went for it 100 percent. We didn’t even go back to 95 percent.”

“A lot of other candidates said they had to get used to the cameras a lot and that it got in their way,” adds Sonny. “We might be on it for the first two minutes, but then we forget about it and you see what we really are. You can tell the viewers appreciate that.”

Still hate comments

The couple could indeed count on a lot of favorable reactions on social media, although they also received occasional hate messages – as it unfortunately seems to be nowadays. Dylan: “We are the couple that has had the least trouble with it. If we got a comment, it was because of our hysteria or because of our orientation.”

“For example, about how we keep showing our ring and yelling, ‘I’ve got a man!’ Some people find that annoying and exaggerated,” says Sonny. “But I’m just so happy for him and so proud of him. Who are you to say we can’t wave our hands?”

Who is still together (and who is not)?

  • Rowan and Astleigh, like Sonny and Dylan, decided to stay married. They live together in Astleigh’s house in Zoetermeer.
  • Maurice and Dennis are not married, but were linked after Maurice’s marriage partner stopped after one day. The two asked each other in the final broadcast.
  • Astrid and Sander, Kim and Antoine, Caroline and Joep and Jan and Birgitte have decided to divorce.

‘We are now moving towards the end of the experiment’

The couple now practically lives together. Dylan, who lives in Emmen, has found a job in Rotterdam and during the week they live with Sonny in Dordrecht. On weekends, they go to Dylan’s house in the north of the country.

Sonny: “We actually have two houses together, who can say that? During the week here and at the weekend to our ‘holiday home’ in Emmen.” Dylan: “Now we are still navigating between two houses, but our ultimate goal is to buy a house together. We are not working on that yet. We are now living towards the end of the experiment.”

The two can finally go out together. They should not be seen together now, as this betrays the course of the program. “Actually, we’ve been in a kind of lockdown for seven months,” Sonny laughs. “We sit inside, or with friends and family who were at the wedding.” Dylan: “We are not even allowed to go to the garbage can together. When I cycle from Dordrecht to the station, I have a cap and glasses on and I am also disguised on the train. And the people around us must of course keep it a secret. “

The couple already has a lot of plans for the coming period. Sonny: “Eating out, shopping. And this summer we want to go to Disneyland in Paris, with all the trimmings. We secretly went for two days in January. But that was with a cap and a mouth cap, we didn’t hold hands. That’s just not relaxed. Now we can parade openly in Disney.”

‘Others had expectations, we didn’t’

Would they recommend joining the much-discussed dating show? “Yes, but we do say: you have to stand strong and be prepared to give up everything temporarily,” says Dylan. “You can’t do this if you’re only 80 percent committed.”

Sonny advises not to have too many expectations. “I noticed that during the couples weekend (where all participating couples met, ed.) I’m there with him and for him, because we want to grow old together.”
