Qualcomm, which has always been conservative in the specifications of the 7 series processors, last year S7 Gen 1 was not favored by the market, and was completely suppressed by MediaTek Dimensity 8000 series in the mid-to-high-end market. It seems that Qualcomm has really stepped on the pain point. Qualcomm will give the S7+ Gen 1 a big upgrade, bringing processor performance comparable to the previous generation.
Qualcomm S7 Gen 1 and S8+ Gen 1 were launched simultaneously in May last year, but compared to the S8+ Gen 1 reversal, S7 Gen 1 has lost the momentum of Qualcomm 7 series. So far, only OPPO Reno 8 Pro Chinese version and Xiaomi Civi 2 Adoption, in the mid-to-high-end market, it is overwhelmed by the Dimensity 8000 series with excellent performance and power consumption. Many manufacturers would rather go back to the old S778 series processors. Even Honor, which announced the first wave of adoption, has not yet launched S7 Gen 1 product.
This downturn seems to make Qualcomm really start to reflect. In the past, the performance of the Qualcomm 7 series was often on par with the previous two generations of flagships, and the performance of the GPU was greatly weakened. However, recent news pointed out that the new S7+ Gen 1 model seems to be a small upgrade. However, the processor architecture will add an X1 large core, which is only available in the original flagship, with three A710 medium cores and four A510 small cores, and the process will be upgraded to TSMC’s 4nm, which is basically a weakened version of S8+ Gen 1.
▲ Qualcomm S7+ Gen 1 AnTuTu running score also reached 1.03 million points, almost double that of the previous generation S7 Gen 1 (about 550,000 points).
The person who broke the news also revealed that the realme new machine with the S7+ Gen 1 processor has an AnTuTu running score of about 1.03 million points, which is only slightly lower than the S8+ Gen 1. The digital chat site also revealed that Qualcomm will still The old trick of lowering the GPU specifications is used to distinguish the grades. The S7+ Gen 1 GPU will be paired with the Adreno 730 with lower clock speed and performance. It can also be seen from the AnTuTu results that the S7+ Gen 1 CPU is at the same level as the S8+ Gen 1. The GPU is likely to be one of the places that made the difference, but it has been much less of a factor in weakening GPU performance than before.
▲ Compared with the Mi 12T Pro equipped with Qualcomm S8+ Gen 1, the CPU scores are similar, and the part of the overall score difference may be caused by GPU downgrade.
Last year’s good performance made MediaTek a little slack. The new generation of Dimensity 8200 only made a small upgrade in the clock, and Qualcomm seems not to let MediaTek be proud for too long. It must be modified on the basis of Dimensity 9200, otherwise it is very likely to lose to Qualcomm S7 Gen 2. Qualcomm’s recovery in the mid-to-high-end market, how will MediaTek respond? It seems that in addition to flagship processors, the competition in the mid-to-high-end market is also exciting.
