Finally Revealed! The culprit that made Indonesia’s Covid-19 rise again

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Health found a new variant of the Covid-19 virus that entered Indonesia, namely the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants. This subvariance is one of the culprits that has made the number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rise again.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, emphasized that the cause of the increase in Covid-19 cases was not because of Eid. Instead, every increase in cases occurs because of a new Covid-19 variant.

This is not only happening in Indonesia, but throughout the world, where the country is experiencing a spike in cases.

“We see every time there is a big spike in each country, it’s not because of a big religious holiday, but because there is a new variant,” he said during a PPKM press conference.

He projects a spike in Covid-19 cases in the country as the transmission of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariant Corona viruses will occur next month.

“Our observations are that the BA.4, BA.5 wave usually peaks one month after the discovery of the first case. So in the second week of July, the third week of July, we will see the peak of these BA.4 and BA.5 cases.” he said.

Initially confirmed, there were four new cases of the Covid-19 subvariant, namely one person infected with the BA.4 subvariant and three people infected with the BA.5 subvariance.

However, to date, there have been at least eight cases of BA.4 and BA.5 subvariances. Of the eight cases, three identified were imported cases from Mauritius, the United States (US) and Brazil.

Budi said that of the eight people identified as having BA.4 and BA.5, only one had moderate symptoms. One person is experiencing moderate symptoms because he has not received an injection booster.

“Government encourages people to complete vaccinations and vaccinations booster, and continue to carry out health protocols according to government recommendations,” he said.

According to the latest data yesterday, Wednesday (15/6), confirmed cases of Covid-19 reached 1,000, to be exact, 1,242, according to data from the Covid-19 Task Force.

This additional 1,242 cases was higher than the previous day’s 930 record. Thus, the total confirmed cases reached 6,063,251.
