Of course, various efforts have been made to deter the perpetrators. But similar crimes keep appearing.
For example, that was done by the legendary game company Nintendo, which filed a lawsuit against a site called RomUniverse. Nintendo won the lawsuit and the pirated game download site had to pay compensation of around Rp. 30.1 billion.
In addition, the manager of RomUniverse named Matthew Storman who is domiciled in Los Angeles, United States, must permanently close the site he manages.
Although he had refused, the court finally decided to order the closure because it minimized the possibility of the site returning to operation.
The court also prohibited RomUniverse from copying, distributing, selling or playing illegal copies of Nintendo. This includes using the Nintendo trademark, logo or name in any way.
In fact, Judge Marshall who presided over the trial ordered Storman to destroy all pirated Nintendo games that he owned.
