President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) finally opened the sound of the question subsidy purchase of electric cars and motorcycles. He said the subsidies were given to support industrial development electric vehicle Indonesia.
He said that if the electric vehicle industry develops, state income and employment could increase.
“If (the electric vehicle industry) develops, develops, taxes will surely increase, PNBP (Government Non-Tax Revenue) will surely increase, and most importantly, it will create the widest job opportunities possible because it will encourage other industries to support,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday (12/21).
Jokowi said the EV subsidy plan was provided by considering calculations, studies, and studying other countries, especially Europe, that had already implemented this policy. Almost all countries are said to have implemented subsidies for electric vehicles.
In this case, Jokowi said subsidies for electric public transport whose production is domestic would receive a different amount.
“Later, when the calculations are final, this decision will be final, and then we will communicate it,” he said.
On the same occasion, Indonesia’s Economy Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto explained that the subsidy was given to develop the electric vehicle market so that the number of electric cars could reach at least 20 percent or 400,000 units by 2025.
“We will give an incentive in a certain amount of rupees. We are currently talking to the finance minister. The value is Rp. 5 trillion. How many cars, how many motorcycles and how many buses we will share,” he said.
Earlier, Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang said that the government had prepared a subsidy scheme of IDR 80 million for the purchase of new electric cars and IDR 40 million for hybrid cars.
Meanwhile, Rp were prepared. 8 million for subsidies for the purchase of new electric motorcycles and Rp. 5 million for conversion engines.
