Christmas has long been a controversial issue across the Islamic world as more conservative Muslims see it as part of Western cultural colonialism.

In the past, Riyadh banned all non-Islamic celebrations in public because the country’s official Wahhabi religious ideology considered it a form of blasphemy.

But under MBS, that understanding has been replaced with a more liberal understanding of non-Muslim holidays.

“Now, Christmas cheer is creeping into Saudi Arabia as social restrictions are relaxed under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.”

“He wants Saudis to have fun and spend more money at home to build new industries that aren’t related to oil,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

Saudi supermarkets are now full of Christmas trees some of which are very expensive and other sale items related to Christian holidays.
