Finally China Unloads COVID Data to WHO, Here Are the Findings

Jakarta

The World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that finally the condition of COVID-19 in China was slowly being revealed. This, of course, was immediately welcomed by the WHO.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus revealed that he had spoken with Ma Xiaowei, as director of the Chinese National Health Commission. The two discussed the wave of infections that erupted after the zero-COVID policy was relaxed in December 2022.

“WHO appreciates this meeting, as well as the release of public information on the overall situation,” WHO wrote ReutersMonday (16/1/2023).

“Chinese officials provided information to the WHO and in press conferences on various topics,” he continued.

Some of the data dismantled by China related to COVID-19, namely:

  • Outpatient clinic
  • Hospitalization
  • Patients who need emergency treatment and clinical care
  • Hospital deaths related to COVID-19 infection

Previously, China said nearly 60,000 people with COVID-19 had died in hospital since its zero-COVID rule was relaxed. This made the pandemic conditions in China even worse.

WHO says the epidemiology of recent outbreaks with rapid and intense waves of infections caused by the Omicron variant, mainly affecting the elderly or people with comorbidities, is similar to that seen in other countries.

“WHO is analyzing this information, covering early December 2022 to January 12, 2023, and enabling a better understanding of the epidemiological situation and impact of this wave in China,” the UN agency said.

“Reported data shows a decrease in the number of cases, hospitalizations and those requiring critical care. WHO has requested a more detailed breakdown of data by province from time to time,” he concluded.
