Finally another outing, but access tests are not going smoothly

Artis and Madame Tussauds can reopen for a weekend as part of the experiments with access tests. People are allowed in on presentation of a negative corona test. But that does not go smoothly, because the test locations in Amsterdam are almost full.

Amsterdammers have had to wait a long time for such an outing, so you would think that tickets would be sold out immediately. But at Artis there are still tickets available, and at Madame Tussauds they are far from fully booked. Tomorrow the wax museum will participate in a pilot day. There is room for up to 2000 people. “To date we have only sold about 20%”, says Quinten Luykx, director of Madame Tussauds.

Not fully booked yet

The fact that there are so many tickets left is due to the crowds at test streets. “Here in Amsterdam, for example, we have two test locations, one of which is already fully booked and the other is almost fully booked. So suppose you are an Amsterdammer, you have to move to a city like Haarlem or Alkmaar to get a test”, says Quinten Luykx. According to him, that is just a little too far away for the visitors of Madame Tussauds.

In fact, it is so disappointing that the museum no longer wants to participate in the rapid test tests. “If we are allowed to open on 11 May with testing for access, then there is a good chance that we will remain closed “, says Luykx. Artis is doing a little better. Today there were still a few places available, but tomorrow and Sunday the tickets for the zoo sold out.

After a phone call from Artis, the organization of Testing for Access has already scaled up the capacity in Amsterdam. But a spokesperson says that there is still only limited space for a rapid test in and around Amsterdam. There is sufficient capacity in the rest of the country. More tests should also be available in the city in the future.
