finally an almost universal connected lock

Installation begins with inserting the cylinder. Our test port has a cylinder that doesn’t come out far enough from inside. But the Yale Linus requires a cylinder that protrudes at least 3mm from the door plate. The manufacturer had the ingenious idea of offering a European-style cylinder adjustment system: small wedges allow the cylinder length to be adjusted.

First, you need to measure the original cylinder. Disassembly does not present major difficulties, at least in a recent situation; just remove a single screw. Therefore, to the length of the cylinder, we add a wedge so that it projects about 5 mm inwards. The operation requires a bit of care, but is not complicated.

Another peculiarity of the Yale cylinder is that it does not house a key inside, but a U-shaped metal rod designed to work perfectly with the engine’s PTO; however, the system has two keys and a card.
Replacing the cylinder took only about 15 minutes. The instructions are reasonably well done, but you need to be careful, because certain subtleties appear during installation, such as the length of Allen screws to use, depending on the shims in place. But nothing insurmountable. Of course, if your cylinder is compatible, Linus will work classically with a key inside driven by the lock motor. This cylinder must be removable, that is, it must be possible to unlock the door from the outside when a key is inserted inside.

Cylinder in place, you just need to install the lock. The principle is quite classic, with a steel plate that fixes the cylinder with three small Allen screws. But the Yale Linus looks sturdier than the competition, at least if you use it with the brand’s barrel. In fact, two additional Allen screws secure the plate to the cylinder. To go further, it is possible to glue the plate to the door with the pre-cut double-sided adhesive. Once this plate is firmly attached, it is enough to put the padlock on it and secure everything by folding down two flaps.

Another advantage of Linus, the 4 LR6 batteries are easily accessible, just behind a magnetic cover at the front; it is not necessary to disassemble everything to change them.
Now, all you have to do is place the opening detection magnet on the door frame.

A calibration procedure is followed from the smartphone application so that the lock learns the position of the corresponding key to lock and unlock, and therefore when the door is opened or closed. Of course, you need to create a user account.
