It’s called Spring and it’s the beginning of a new era for the Dacia brand – it’s its first electric car. And Denis Le Vot from Renault, the parent company of Dacia in Romania, introduced it as the most affordable electric car in Europe. He did not announce the price, but he is said to be “unbeatable”.

For this “unbeatable” price, you get not a brand new car, but a redesigned Renault City K-ZE, which is still sold in China. This means a really tiny car – a length of 3734 mm, a width of 1770 mm including mirrors and a height of 1516 mm puts it closer to the Renault Twingo than the Dacia Sandero.

However, in the spirit of the Dacia brand, we see a great ground clearance in the photos, thanks to which Spring can cope much with broken and field roads. However, all-wheel drive in the offer cannot be expected.

In the case of an electric car, the low price also means low power – 45 hp and 125 Nm, which is enough for a maximum of 125 km / h – and a small battery. Spring will offer 26.8 kWh, about half of e.g. versus Renault Zoe. The range on a single charge should be up to 225 km in a combined cycle according to the WLTP standard.

The possibility of fast charging with direct current is at an additional cost.

The Dacii Spring can be charged with a fast DC charger, albeit at an additional cost. The press release mentions the maximum charging power of 30 kW, with which it should take less than an hour from zero to 80%. The standard among electric cars is the support of at least 50kW fast charging.

At the other end of the spectrum is a cable to a standard 230V 10A socket, with which charging from zero to 100% should take less than 14 hours.

The interior is only four seats, but the Dacia promises plenty of knee and headroom in the rear seats for adult occupants. Behind the rear seats is 300 liters for luggage, or. 280 if you decide to pay extra for a spare wheel.

The list of extras also includes electric mirrors, air conditioning and a touch screen multimedia system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, an instrument panel with a display in the middle is standard.

Likewise, automatic lighting and automatic emergency braking are standard equipment, in addition to mandatory items such as ESP, the E-Call emergency system or airbags.

Also of interest is the turning radius of only 4.8 meters, which indicates the amazing agility of the car. And also the existence of a utility version of Cargo, which has a loading area of 1033 mm long and can hold up to 800 liters of cargo.

The luggage compartment can also contain a spare wheel.

The price has not been announced yet, but we know that Spring will be ordered in the spring of 2021. Customers will receive a warranty on the car for three years or 100 thousand km; the battery has a warranty of 8 years or 120 thousand km.
