The deadline for claiming Corona aid has been extended one last time. Final accounts can now be submitted for the last time until September 30. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) agreed on this with the federal states. Industry organizations such as tax consultants, auditors and lawyers were also involved in the concerted action. The state-owned investment bank Berlin IBB announced this on Monday.
The final accounts are necessary in order to compare the grants originally requested with those to which the applicants are actually entitled. This could lead to additional payments or repayments. The bureaucratic effort to check and make the final accounts for the various Corona aid will keep the Investitionsbank Berlin busy until at least 2030, it was announced a few days ago.
There are currently around 20,100 final invoices for Corona economic aid pending in the state of Berlin, the development bank wrote in a statement. The final invoice calculates and sets the final amount of funding for companies and self-employed people affected by severe Corona-related sales declines. If the final invoice is not submitted or not submitted on time, the entire funding must be repaid.

By extending the submission deadline, the third-party auditors and the companies have been given more time to finalize the processing of the Corona economic aid during a situation characterized by an already high workload and a need for skilled workers.
At the time, the federal and state governments, together with the approval authorities – in Berlin with the IBB – and in close coordination with the third-party auditors, acted quickly and decisively to support the economy during the pandemic and, as a result, to secure jobs. “All companies and third-party auditors in Berlin are called upon to make the most of the time and to complete the necessary final accounts and submit them on time,” the IBB wrote in a statement.
On May 17, 2021, the state of Berlin increased the federal government’s “restart” corona aid for self-employed individuals. On August 25, 2020, the IBB also launched a program with “corona aid for start-ups.” The funds could be used for investments and to co-finance running costs such as rent, personnel costs (including entrepreneur’s wages) and inventory (operating resources).
