The shock over the death of Richard Lugner is still great. As was announced on Monday (12 August), the Austrian building contractor died at the age of 91 in his villa in Vienna. Little is known about Lugner’s cause of death. However, the property developer had a long history of illness and recently suffered from heart problems.
Even during his lifetime, he had planned in detail what would happen after his death. Now the first details about the property developer’s funeral have become known.
Richard Lugner chose his final resting place himself
“Mörtel” already suspected that he didn’t have much time left. Shortly before his death, he changed his will, which now also included his sixth wife, Simone. Everything had to be arranged just in case. And so Lugner left nothing to chance when choosing his final resting place.
How “oe24.at“ reported that he did not want to be buried in Vienna’s Central Cemetery, unlike his mother and aunt. Instead, Lugner had acquired two graves in a crypt in the Grinzinger Cemetery in Vienna’s Döbling district. Not least because he could see it clearly from his garden during his lifetime.

The funeral service for Richard Lugner will take place here
Richard Lugner had also ordered his gravestone made of “royal red granite” before his death. However, this will not be delivered until September, according to “oe24.at”. It is not yet known when exactly the property developer’s funeral will take place. In Austria, the deceased are usually buried five to seven days after their death.
Contrary to initial speculation, the funeral will not take place in St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. Lugner actually wanted to ask for the church’s blessing for his marriage to Simone Reiländer after his 92nd birthday. According to a close friend of the building contractor, the funeral will instead take place in his favorite church on Kaasgraben in Grinzing.
