The Lorca City Council has announced that the Urban Planning Department has granted a licence to carry out works consisting of a thorough renovation and expansion of the San Diego Health Centre, which will optimise the care provided to the more than 30,000 users who are registered there, as well as increasing medical services, and also allowing the Rafael Méndez Hospital to be relieved.

The project has a budget of 616,000 euros.

San Cristóbal, San Diego and the adjacent neighborhoods and hamlets will have their health facilities built and expanded, which will serve not only the current population, but also the population expected to grow in the future in the areas being promoted between San Diego and Tercia.
Specifically, according to Hernandez, “This license represents the definitive beginning of the remodeling work on the building; with a renovated surface area of 1,056 m² and an expanded surface area of 632 m²resulting in a final constructed area of 2,491 m², all based on current functionality needs and compliance with current regulations. Once renovated, the centre will have one more paediatric care consultation and another for women’s care, which will be expanded and there will be two in total; and a multi-purpose room will be created for breastfeeding and maternal education workshops, among others. In addition, a consultation for the social worker and another for the school nurse have been planned, as well as a pharmacy warehouse to improve the dispensing processes.”
As for the area for the care of the adult population, all the spaces will be renovated, that is: treatment room, extraction room, diagnostic techniques room and special techniques room.
The project has designed a double circuit for possible infectious-respiratory patients (two consultations)The air conditioning will be renovated and the ventilation centre will be equipped to guarantee optimal air quality. It will also have a home automation system, efficient and low-consumption lighting, and will be equipped with a stretcher lift, a toilet for people with ostomy bags and an adapted toilet per floor. The staff area will also be remodelled and will be equipped with two coordinators’ offices, a meeting room, a library and two training rooms, as well as changing rooms.
