Final Fantasy XVI has been reviewed by the ESRB and it looks like the beloved RPG series is heading in a much darker direction this time around. Final Fantasy XVI, currently rated M for Mature, is recommended for ages 17+.
There are a few reasons for the rating of Final Fantasy XVI including the appearance of blood and gore, partial nudity, strong language, sexual themes, and violence. This M rating marks a first for the Final Fantasy series and potentially shows how different the latest game will be.
This ESRB classification might worry some fans who don’t want to see the final fantasy take on a more mature tone, but it might also excite newcomers to the franchise. However, older fans won’t be left behind, as there are other Final Fantasy projects to look forward to, such as a Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster launching spring next year.
Final Fantasy XVI will be released on June 22, 2023 for PS5 and PC.
