A new and different approach is one of the identities offered by Square Enix with the release of Final Fantasy XVI to the market. With Naoki Yoshida in charge, he succeeded in building a story and world related to Final Fantasy that is epic thanks to the battle between Eikon whose existence is defined as a force or monster that is not difficult to destroy a country just like that. The story also closes with an emotional ending that is enough to make any adult human shed tears. With all these qualities, it’s no surprise that there is a thirst for more experiences.
This dream was immediately realized by Square Enix at The Game Awards 2023 yesterday with the confirmation of two paid DLCs which were also sold in the form of expansion passes. The two DLCs are – Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, with the first title even being available on the market now. This provides an opportunity for gamers who love Final Fantasy XVI to dive back into its world and enjoy the extra content prepared by Yoshi-P.
So, what does Echoes of the Fallen offer? Why do we call it omega intake? This review will discuss it in more depth for you.
For those of you who don’t follow the story
From what is offered in it, Echoes of the Fallen is clearly designed for those who are after the extra challenge of XVI’s battle system and not the story side.
Building rational expectations is something that’s of the utmost importance when welcoming paid DLC like Echoes of the Fallen for Final Fantasy XVI. With around 3 hours of gameplay to complete, one thing you have to know and understand is the fact that this DLC is not designed to continue the story of what Clive et al have experienced or simply offer something truly important in terms of lore. What he offers, is a fighting challenge.
Echoes of the Fallen itself will take the story timeline before you jump into the final boss fight against Ultima. Something strange happened where Clive et al discovered the existence of a black crystal which clearly did not come from Mothercrystal from any location. As can be predicted, this investigation process leads you to a giant Fallen infrastructure which seems to be the party that synthetically concocted it. Through conversations with a little of the existing lore, you will also gain a little extra knowledge about the relationship between The Falllen’s infrastructure and Ultima itself.
Happening before the final battle, Clive, Joshua, and Jill try to find the origin of the scattered black crystals. An investigation that leads them to a giant infrastructure belonging to The Fallen.
So with the same visualization quality approach as the basic version, the new location you will explore is just the giant infrastructure, which also appears super simple. It doesn’t appear like a dungeon with so many confusing alternative paths, but rather a straightforward dungeon that will take you to fight from one area to another, with in the middle, a fight against several mini-bosses. Don’t worry, it also doesn’t contain any puzzles for those of you who are sick of draining your brain on RPG games like this. As an extra note? If you are a gamer who has completed this game perfectly, then Echoes of the Fallen, which is actually triggered like a side mission, will come with the final difficulty level you choose – which should be at the “Final Fantasy” level.
Focusing more on the fighting side, the process of exploring this new dungeon is straightforward without puzzles.
With the age gap between the original version and the DLC, which, although not quite long, is of course filled with many other games that you have tried out with new control schemes, it really takes some getting used to mastering the fighting scheme and dodging timing in Echoes of the Fallen. The good news? Before you dive into the infrastructure of The Fallen that we referred to at the beginning, you are at least given the opportunity to carry out a small exploration which you can position as a “warm up”.
