Final Fantasy XIV Coming to Xbox Series X and S in Spring 2024 with Fifth Expansion

The mmorpg Final Fantasy XIV will be available for the Xbox Series X and S in Spring 2024, more than a decade after the game was released for PlayStation consoles and PC. In addition, a fifth expansion has been announced.

The Xbox versions get support for crossplay on all servers with the versions for other platforms. The game will also get faster load times on Xbox Series X and S compared to the versions for previous generation consoles, but only the Xbox Series X version will get 4K support.

It is the first time that Final Fantasy XIV will be available for an Xbox console. In 2019, it was announced that the game was in the works for the Xbox One, but that never happened. Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu says during the festival from now on games will be released for Xbox consoles ‘if possible’.

In addition, it was announced during the Fan Festival that the new DLC, Dawntrail, will be available next year. This expansion adds a new continent, Tural, and is supposed to herald the beginning of a new story arc, after the previous one was completed during the Endwalker DLC.

Furthermore, the mmorpg should receive a graphical upgrade from the release of Dawntrail, Square Enix promises. Work has been done on the quality of the textures, lighting and shadows, among other things. However, this ensures that the minimum system requirements for the PC version are increased. From then on, at least an Intel Core i7-6700 processor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 480 video card are required.
