Final Fantasy VII Remake: Positive ratings arouse anticipation on the PC

Square Enix gives a first hint of a PC version of the Final Fantasy VII remake. Meanwhile, reviews give cause for anticipation, because the first part of the new version, divided into episodes, receives mostly positive reviews.

Currently the first episode of the remake can only be played on PlayStation 4. This will change, however, because the exclusivity ends on March 3, 2021. The official launch video provides the first official indication of the planned release on other platforms.

It shows in the first few seconds that the gameplay scenes shown have been recorded on the PC. This would only make sense if the game was still in development, but not if a final version was available for recording. The planned Xbox version had an accidental listing by Microsoft Germany last year betray.

Joy and anticipation

A high rating cut reveals that it is worth waiting for the ports Metacritic. Publications award an average of 87 out of 100, buyers 8.0 out of 10 possible points. Basically, Square Enix succeeds in rethinking the classic and bringing it into the modern.

GamePro notes that the old teaser sequence in its new form basically works as a whole game, that the old function as an introduction to the story doesn’t fit the new length and ends when it should really start. 4Players rather misses free exploration of the world and criticizes storytelling that too often “with the fence post” successes, IGN criticized like that Washington Post Filler elements that US gamers associated with unnecessary complexity. This is a trademark of the Kingdom Hearts series of the game director.

The game can entertain the testers all the time because the combat system, graphics and story moments develop traction. However, with its additions in the story area and the freedom that the developers have taken to modernize, the remake often does not quite meet the expectations of the reviewers familiar with the original – for example, at Kotaku. However, the fun factor does not damage after the surprise has subsided. The judgments also agree on another point: the anticipation of the next episodes.
