Final Fantasy VII Remake is a “stripped down, disappointing” porting

Digital Foundry’s verdict is harsh.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has finally been released on PC – and that’s about where the good news ends. At least if we are to believe Digital Foundry (and a lot of other critics, to be honest).

The PS5 port, according to tech-savvy Digital Foundry, is “a disappointment”. Although it retains all the PS5 features, it is characterized by “hiccuping and chopping”, and with disappearance get few choices for the players. At the same time, you are careful to point out that the game is basically “strikingly beautiful”; but they had wished for more PC possibilities. Many more.

Beyond options for resolution, HDR and a little more, there is a gap.

As for texture and shadow resolution, there are just high and low settings. For textures, the high setting is much the same as PlayStation 5, while low sits above PS4 for much of the art but can be worse on some assets. There’s a missed opportunity here as some of the textures on PS5 are still a little rough – something PC could have addressed.

In short: this port is not good enough, says Digital Foundry.
