Ghost of Tsushima hit the market three years ago as one of the last exclusives released before the PS5. Despite a budget of just $60 million, the game delivered an immersive open world that rarely failed to impress.
Other aspects did not disappoint, such as keeping with the Japanese theme and culture. Even though Ghost of Tsushima came from a Western studio, it impressed many Japanese developers, including the creator of the Final Fantasy series.
Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi said that Ghost of Tsushima is a game he liked!
He said it was a fun and well made game and that he liked the game system. The game is very similar to the real place and was made by a non-Japanese team, which also made a big impression on him!
During a recent interview, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi spoke about Ghost of Tsushima and expressed that he really enjoyed playing the game. As reported by Genki_Jpn, he said:
I really enjoyed its gameplay and systems. It is very similar to real places.
Hironobu Sakaguchi found this authenticity even more impressive since it was not created by a Japanese studio. Considering that the developer has decades of work on legendary franchises, such a compliment is very important.
Ghost of Tsushima has received similar praise in the past from Shinji Mikami, another Japanese creator who pioneered the Resident Evil franchise. Both comments prove that Sucker Punch Productions worked on almost every part of the game.
The studio spent a lot of time and effort studying Japanese culture. She also incorporated references to classic Japanese samurai films into the game, allowing fans to play the game with a filter that paid homage to icons like Akira Kurosawa.
After such success, Sucker Punch Productions may have already made significant progress on Ghost of Tsushima 2. Last year, a job posting hinted that the team was working on a sequel, but there has been no announcement yet.
The game was a commercial success and sold approximately 10 million copies. This success was clearly deserved, as influential developers also praised the work of Sucker Punch Productions.
