On the beginning of this year Due to a letter from Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda, it seemed that just about all games from Square Enix would sooner or later do something with NFTs (non-fungible tokens), including Final Fantasy 14. Many fans of the MMORPG held their breath, but game director Yoshi P (Naoki Yoshida) finally reassured them in a livestream.
“We don’t plan to put NFT elements in the game right now,” said Yoshi P. And again later, a little less ambiguously: “We’re not going into NFTs. [Final Fantasy] 14 stop.”
During the live stream, Yoshi P also confirmed that the MMORPG free trial will return on February 22. The trial was previously closed due to server instability after the release of FF14 extension Endwalker.
Even better news for FF14 players who aren’t concerned with fringe issues like NFTs: the game’s graphical upgrade, which will accompany the 7.0 update, was also shown. Hair, skin and gear of characters are getting a higher resolution and better shaders are coming to the game, among other things, but in general the adjustments fit the current look of FF14 and no attempt is made to achieve photorealism.
The graphics upgrade is still in a testing phase – it was only tested internally for a month before the live stream – but some examples have already been given:
