Final Champions League: The most recent Liverpool vs Real Madrid

The Champions League final is getting closer and here we review Liverpool vs Real Madrid, as well as the players who were on the pitch that day and some more background prior to Saturday’s duel in Paris.

Perhaps many do not have it registered but this last Liverpool vs Real Madrid was not exactly that of the 2018 final, in fact they met a year ago and within the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

In the first leg, Real Madrid clearly won 3-1 and in the second leg, the team now led by Carlo Ancelotti put a lock on the Reds at Anfield and Zinedine Zidane’s men advanced.

On that occasion the goals of Vinicius, who scored two that day and one more from Marcos Asensio, shaped the qualification for the semifinals, although there, they were eliminated at the hands of Chelsea with a 3-1 aggregate.

Champions League: Liverpool vs Real Madrid ¿Un clásico?

Since the previous European Cup was created and up to the Champions League, the Reds and the merengue team met eight times and two of them were for the duel that defined the title, both teams have a win, the most recent, that of Karius’s mistakes and the great goal of Gareth Bale.

But along the way, Liverpool can also boast of being one of the few teams to beat Madrid in the final stages and their 5-0 aggregate win in the 2009 Champions League round of 16 is proof

Today, things are very different, Liverpool did not suffer to reach the grand final, while Madrid did have a bad time from the round of 16, but on three occasions they were able to get up and turn the series around

Of course, it must be pointed out that the last team capable of winning a Champions League final was Liverpool in 1981 and coincidentally it was in Paris, where the final will be played this weekend, although on that occasion it was in the Parque de los princes.
