According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, those cancellations related to bad weather require the company to inform its customers of the cancellation of the flight, as well as to offer assistance service and in most cases they are obliged to offer a refund of the money. or, failing that, an alternative transportation to complete the journey between the airport and the final destination. In any case, the airlines are not obliged to pay compensation to the victims for not carrying out the flight, although this does not imply that some companies can pay that extra amount that would be added to the reimbursement.

The truth is that yes: the refund of the money must be made in a maximum of 7 days and also, according to the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency, it must offer the customer a flight back to the first departure point as soon as possible.

From the Ministry of Consumption they remember that, although some companies offer the possibility of offering a voucher for the amount to be exchanged in the coming months, its existence does not suppress the right of the traveler to opt for the refund if they wish.

When must the company inform that the flight has been canceled?

What if the storm does not allow me to catch the plane?

In the event that the flight has not been canceled but the traveler cannot reach the terminal due to the weather, he or she must make sure whether, in the contract conditions, there is the possibility of canceling their trip or an alternative to postpone it.

If the airline has not fulfilled any of these obligations, it must claim the amount of the money from it. The next step will be to file a claim with the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) and, ultimately, go to court.
