Film: We are here now

When more than 800,000 refugees came to Germany in 2015, they were the feared opponents of all integration skeptics: young men who came to Germany from Syria or Afghanistan, Somalia, Eritrea or Iraq. They became a projection screen for serious concerns as well as crude racism.
At the same time, they were talked about much more often than with them – and that’s where this film starts. Seven young men tell the camera about their arrival in Germany – about funny and exhilarating moments and moments of deepest despair, about their fears and how they treated them, about racism and love. Their stories allow the audience to participate in the emotional turbulence that an escape almost always entails, and they tell a lot about what it will take in the next few years for integration to succeed.

A documentary by Ronja von Wurmb-Seibel and Niklas Schenck.

After the film there is the opportunity to talk to Hussein Al Ibrahim and Azim Fakhri, two of the protagonists from the film.
