You are looking for film clips of hotel room numbers.
“Yes! I have been making film mash-ups, edited selections of film images, for about ten years. I choose a subject, collect fragments from it and stick them together in a fun way. This gives you a unique film with a new meaning. Seven years ago I came up with the idea of piecing together fragments of hotel room numbers one through a hundred, but it got out of hand and became one through a thousand. Yes, it has become quite a project.”
You probably watch a lot of movies.
“I’m a movie freak anyway. I must have seen at least three thousand films for this project. I have kept track of all the hotel room numbers that I have encountered in an Excel sheet. There are several films behind many songs.”
How many more numbers do you need?
“About three hundred more.”
Is it a pastime or do you have big plans for this project?
“I would like to turn it into a video installation for a museum or a festival. The mash-up will be an hour and a half or full evening film. Not chronologically, but I do want a story to be told. During the presentation I want three screens, two on which you see the songs slowly pop up, and one on which the film plays in a loop. Composer Berend Dubbe is creating a soundtrack for it.”
How can people help you?
“I’m happy with every number I get anyway. Now I’m mainly looking for the higher regions, large numbers are quite difficult to find. The images must be fictional, for example from a film, TV series, advertisement or video clip.”
