There is a film in the making about the life of Whitney Houston, who passed away in 2012. Just like in other popular biography movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman the singer’s music will play a major role in I Wanna Dance with Somebody, reports Deadline.
The Houston heirs have given permission to make the film and will also be involved in the process as a producer.
The Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten, who co-wrote, among others Bohemian Rhapsody and The Two Popes, will write the script for the film and also act as a producer. He is currently working on the film around the music group The Bee Gees.
Stella Meghie (The Photograph) is in talks to direct I Wanna Dance With Somebody to take care of. It is not yet known who will play the role of Houston.
“We are honored to produce a film that is uplifting and shows how Whitney inspired the people around her,” said Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, on behalf of the singer’s heirs.
Houston broke through in 1985, scoring numerous hits, including How Will I Know, I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
The singer was found dead on February 11, 2012 in a bathtub in the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. She was 48 at the time. She may have had a heart attack due to medical problems and the use of drugs.
